This project is composed of two wind turbine generators with 126 m rotor, the biggest equipments Saigrene has installed so far.
The wind park project was very demanding due to several environmental constraints and the presence of protected species of birds. We provided the engineering consultancy works for this site and managed some of the complementary works as land acquisition, permits and the procurement process with the suppliers.
A challenging project in the island of Terceira, Serra do Cume-Norte is a four turbine-generator wind park, in the mountains near the airbase of Lajes. It is the first IPP project in the Azores.
The wind park is composed by four Enercon E44 with direct transmission and 55 m high tubular steel towers, being completed in 2013.
The operation of the park involves state of the art technology in short term wind prediction since it is an effective way to ensure the penetration of a substantial amount of energy in Terceira small electrical grid.
Saigrene has provided all the engineering consultancy works for this site. Also managed the complementary works as land acquisition and permits and the fundamental technical, economical and legal works.
This project was developed in a Natural reserve in the center of Portugal.
The licensing process imposed several uncommon technical solutions that were among one of the most challenging to our design team.
The wind park is composed by four Vestas V90 with gearbox and 80 m high tubular steel towers, and was completed in September 2014.
Saigrene has provided engineering consultancy works for this site. Also managed all the complementary works as land acquisition and permits and the fundamental technical, economical and legal works.
Morno Solar PV plant is the most recent project in Azores where wind power development has been the main activity till now.
The production is to be sold to the local grid and the interconnection will be in the Medium Voltage (30 kV). The sea proximity, volcanic nature of Pico Island and difficulties related to the local orography are the main conditioning factors in the present permitting phase. Commissioning is expected for 2025.
The Kathu projects were designed with basic sub-sets of 1 MW each, after extensive research on the PV market. The technology adopted varies for each plant and it goes from standard Si crystalline panels to concentrated PV panels. The location of the plants, near the desert of Kalahari, provides a very high energy output to the mining activity in the area.
Several consultancy studies were performed in the feasibility and project phases.
Sol Poente was built in the south of Portugal near an environmental protected area. Its location is the result of a thorough search for the best place in terms of Balance of Plant. It was connected to the national grid (30 kV) in April 2009.
Several consultancy studies were performed in the promotion, project and licensing phases.
Several projects were developed in Kenya summing up more than 200 MW. From consultancy in Self Consumption to our own portfolio built up with the support of USTDA-United States Trade and Development Agency, Saigrene brought the hydropower experience to these equatorial latitudes. Several other projects, financed by AFD-Agence Française de Developpement for KAM-Kenya Association of Manufacturers were also performed in record time.
In the present days, the main focus is on three projects in Central Kenya and Lake Vitoria, with a total 100 MW installed power.
These projects result from the collaboration with local partners and are fully licensed and waiting for the respective PPA’s – Power Purchase Agreements approvals.
Armamar is a very unconventional design with a self cleaning trash rack tirolean intake, an excavated small section tunnel and a 540 m long penstock that proved to be very productive since its commissioning in 2004. Saigrene has conducted all the works to license the scheme and elaborated all the projects including the environmental impact studies. The solutions adopted allowed the civil works and most of the hydraulic equipment to be built and installed by local companies.
Senhorim is a medium-head small hydro power plant in the center of Portugal, with a very simple and classical design.
The prospection, development, licensing and project were performed by Saigrene. We also assumed the tasks related with the construction, procurement and general supervision. The experimental exploration period was also conducted by us. Today, Saigrene provides the technical consultancy for the exploration and maintenance of this scheme. We are currently developing the project of a 600 kVA solar PV hybrid plant.
